While Rebecca cannot talk, she has no problems expressing herself. She will sing out with the squeals that God has given her as a voice during worship time in church. She will raise her hands (with help) to express worship to her Lord. She smiles and squeals with delight when she sees someone she knows and wants to get their attention. She makes it her objective to meet as many people as possible whenever she is out of the house, using her eyes and her smile to draw total strangers to her. Rebecca is a shining example that our joy is not dependent on our circumstances. Being confined to a wheelchair and dependant on others for all her needs, she has every reason to be unhappy. However, she makes a personal choice to openly demonstrate the joy that God has given her. While Rebecca cannot express herself the way others do, she can see, hear, learn, and understand just like any other teenager. She is able to answer questions put to her by others, if expressed in a way that she can answer. Back in the USA, she graduated from high school and participated in a YMCA programs. Rebecca enjoys taking long walks with her dad and truly loves going to church. Rebecca's greatest interests are Christian music with a contemporary or rock beat, movies and videos of interest to teenagers, and sports. Rebecca loves American football (especially college football) and any women's sport (especially women's basketball). And, like any teenage girl, she loves to go shopping, especially when it is shopping for her. |
