OUR MINISTRY IN EL
SALVADOR
We have been involved in a wide variety of
ministries. One of our primary goals is to carry the outreach of the Salvadoran
churches to other nations. The church in El
Salvador is a mature church ready to send
missionaries to other countries around the world. Probably two-thirds of the
work we de here is in connection with world missions. We now have over 50
Salvadoran missionaries serving around the world.
We have the privilege of teaching in the
Salvadoran Bible Schools and in the Universidad Cristiana de las Asambleas de
Dios (Christian
University of the Assemblies of God
here in El
Salvador). This is a fully government
accredited university that we have been able to use, along with our Bible
Schools, as training grounds for our current and future Salvadoran
missionaries.
We have also had the privilege of working with the
Luz y Vida magazine. The is the publishing arm of the Salvadoran
Assemblies of God similar to the Pentecostal Evangel and
Enrichment magazine.
We have further had the privilege of working with
Teen Challenge International here in El
Salvador. Teen Challenge is a ministry
to youth, adults and families with substance abuse and those in gangs and on the
street. It has been found to be one of the most effective programs, even gaining
government recognition. A
US government
study of Teen Challenge showed that 86% of the youth who graduated from
the program remained drug free seven years later. This is a ministry, which
although it is only several years old here in El
Salvador, has now grown to eight homes and
around one hundred interns.
Our privilege has also been to work with
evangelism, church planting, discipleship, pastoral ministry and various
specialized programs within El
Salvador's churches - Royal Rangers,
Missionettes, Youth, Men's Ministries and Women's
Ministries.
We have been on the receiving end of AIM teams
from the US who
have participated in evangelism and street ministry, MAPS construction and
prayer task force teams, and HealthCare ministry teams who have
provided free medical care. The MAPS construction teams have provided a key role
in the construction of the 144 Assemblies of God churches that were completely
destroyed in the two earthquakes and thousands of aftershocks in 2001 and in the
construction of a new National
Conference
Center for the Assemblies of God - a
facility for 3,000+ people.
OUR
VISION
Our vision is to see a mighty Holy Spirit revival
across our Assemblies of God churches in El
Salvador, which in turn will greatly increase
the number of missionaries El
Salvador will have around the world! This will
in turn increase the number of churches internally and the local “home missions”
outreach of the Assemblies of God.
EL
SALVADOR
El
Salvador is referred to as the “pinkie” of
Central America. It is a country that has been through a
lot in the last few years: a 12 year civil war, a devastating earthquake in
1986, hurricane Mitch in 1999 and two more earthquakes in 2001. Although this
would seem to be something that would hinder the church, the Assemblies of God
has experienced its greatest growth during these times. The Assemblies of God in
El Salvador is
now reaching in its churches every week over 210,000 people!
THE ASSEMBLIES OF
GOD IN EL
SALVADOR
The Assemblies of God in
El Salvador has
more than 7,000 Ordained, Licensed and Lay ministers serving in over 6,200
churches and preaching points. In our 20+
Bible
Schools, Extension programs and one
University we are training over 3,300 future ministers. We have 35 elementary
schools serving over 14,000 students and 4 secondary schools reaching over 3,000
students. Over 1,000,000 children were evangelized last year of which over
100,000 accepted Christ. We have 50+ Assemblies of God missionaries serving
around the world in such places as
India and
Togo-Benin (fully supported by the Salvadoran Assembly of God church).
It
is our joy and privilege to be part of what God is doing in this country!
There’s no better place to be than where God wants you to be. We have thoroughly
enjoyed our time in El
Salvador! God is so good.
Thank
you to all of the churches and people who have supported us in their
prayers and finances and made it possible for us to be in
El Salvador
